USAA Auto Insurance Options

January 27, 2012

The United Services Automobile Association (USAA) is an insurance company that offers auto insurance options to many people and families that serve, or have served, in the United States military.

The minimum requirements needed for insurance coverage are determined by whether the vehicle is financed, in a lease program or if you own it. If you own the vehicle, you can purchase minimum coverage based on the laws of your State. Usually you only need liability. Besides liability, there are many options of coverage you can have included in your policy.

Liability Protection

Liability insurance protects you if you are found to be responsible for an accident. This includes bodily injury or deaths resulting from the car accident. It also covers you for any damage to someone else's property caused by the accident. Make sure you have enough coverage to cover your personal assets in the event of an accident.

Protection for You and Your Passengers

This includes personal injury protection to you and your passengers covering medical expenses and loss of income. Coverage can also include any injuries caused by an uninsured or underinsured motorist.

Collision Coverage

Collision coverage pays for damages caused by an accident or rollover regardless of who is determined at fault.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive covers for any damage to the vehicle other than what is covered by the collision coverage. Some of these damages can be caused by theft, fire vandalism or flooding.

Other Options

In addition to the above listed coverages, you can also purchase towing insurance in case your car is unable to be driven; and rental car reimbursement in case your car was involved in an accident and unavailable for more than 24 hours.
