2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid Overview

Justin Cupler
Automotive Editor - February 14, 2013

The Chevrolet truck has a long and storied history that traces back to its first pickup in 1918, and the lineup has seen many changes since then. The three most notable are the introductions of the C/K models in 1962; their replacement in the 1999 model year; and the Silverado 1500 Hybrid in 2005.

For 2013, the Silverado 1500 Hybrid carries over with no changes from 2012. This pickup comes in only two trim levels: 1HY and 2HY. The 1HY acts as the base model and includes basic features like cloth seating, power windows and manually-adjustable seating. The 2HY makes a huge step up from its base model with leather seating, power-adjustable seats and a Bose premium audio system.

Both trim levels use a hybrid drive system that produces 379 horsepower with a 6-liter V-8 engine and a pair of 60 kW motors housed in the automatic transmission. The setup nets this pickup 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. This hybrid Silverado is less robust than most full-size pickups, though, and can tow only 6,100 pounds.
