An Older, More Affordable Silverado. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Limited is an oddball in Chevrolet’s lineup. The Silverado 1500 Limited is a carryover model from 2021, which might explain why it looks different, costs less, and has different features from the new 2022 Silverado. Seeing two pickup trucks with similar names, designs, and price tags is confusing, but there are a few things that separate the two trucks.

The 2022 Silverado 1500 has an updated exterior design, a new interior look, an available 13.4-inch touchscreen, an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an extensive suite of advanced safety features as standard. Super Cruise is optional, while there’s a new ZR2 model that’s aimed at off-roaders. The older Silverado 1500 Limited doesn’t have these features and it retains the same look as the truck from the 2021 model year.

Another major difference is pricing. The Silverado 1500 Limited starts at $32,195 (with destination), while the new Silverado 1500 is priced at $36,395. The $4,200 difference is fairly large between the two models, but the more affordable price is what makes the Silverado 1500 Limited appealing.

Punchy Lineup Of Engines.Chevy offers the 2022 Silverado 1500 Limited with four different engines. The options range from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine up to a 6.2-liter V8. A diesel engine is in there for good measure, too.

We’re partial to the two V8 engines that include a 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. The smaller V8 produces 355 horsepower, while the larger one is rated at 420 hp. These two engines offer the most towing capacity, with the 5.3-liter V8 being rated at 11,500 pounds and the 6.2-liter V8 offering up to 13,300 pounds of towing capacity. Additionally, the V8s are only a few mpg behind the turbo-four.

For the best fuel economy, you’ll want to choose the 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder engine. It makes 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque (which matches the 6.2-liter V8) and can get up to 27 mpg combined. Unfortunately, the diesel engine is only available on a few trims and tends to be a pricey upgrade.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Limited Interior

Outdated Cabin, Old Tech. While the new 2022 Silverado 1500 has an updated interior, the Silverado 1500 Limited has the same interior and tech features as the truck from 2021. Compared to other trucks in the class and the new Silverado 1500, the Silverado 1500 Limited feels old.

The base Silverado 1500 Limited comes with a small 7-inch touchscreen, two speakers, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Higher trims come with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone compatibility, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a wireless charging pad, a Bose audio system, extra USB ports, an HD Radio, and a satellite radio. These features are out of style compared to the rest of the class.

Other places where the Silverado 1500 Limited lags behind rivals are when it comes to its interior design and materials. Lower Silverado 1500 Limited trims feel like barebones work trucks with chunky elements, durable materials, and large physical controls. While higher trims come with nicer interior materials, they don’t feel nearly as nice as high-end trims on other pickups.

Pickup Truck Ride. Quite a few large pickup trucks in the segment have gained updated suspension or high-tech features to improve ride quality. This isn’t the case with the Silverado 1500 Limited. It rides very much like a truck because of its leaf spring suspension setup in the rear. If you’re looking for something comfortable, the Silverado 1500 Limited doesn’t have a cushy ride.

Other trucks in the segment have moved to have a coil-spring rear suspension or adaptive suspension to smooth out bumps. The Silverado 1500 Limited’s old suspension setup leads to a jittery road, especially over bumpy roads. Loading the truck’s bed with heavy cargo makes the ride more compliant, but driving around with a loaded bed on a daily basis isn’t realistic for most owners.

Final Thoughts. For shoppers on a budget, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Limited is a truck that trades bells and whistles for capability and simplicity. What you see is what you get with the Silverado 1500 Limited. Those in need of a work truck will appreciate the fact that the truck wears its intentions on its sleeve.

The RAM 1500 is the most well-rounded truck on the market. It has a high-end interior, a smooth ride, powerful engines, a wide range of trims, and high-tech features. The Ford F-150 continues to be the leader in the class with useful features, loads of options, an all-electric powertrain, and upscale trims.
