German brands are credited with penning gorgeous sedans with the sloping roofline of a coupe. The blueprint seemed odd at first, but it brought about the Audi A7 and BMW 6-Series – two of the best-looking four-door luxury vehicles on the road. Both may not have the same amount of rear head room as the sedans they're based off of, but that's the only compromise you have to make. Performance, luxury, and exclusivity are the same, if not more.

What the A7 Gets Right

Large luxury sedans don't get updated often, which makes 2019 a special year, because Audi rolled out with a heavily-revised A7. It has a more modern look, more high-tech features, and a lower price tag. The A7 starts at $68,995, including destination. The 6-Series Gran Coupe is $13,500 more expensive with a starting price of $82,495.

The A7 is the more powerful option, as well. It comes with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The base engine in the 6-Series is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that generates 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque.

Because of the A7's hatchback-like trunk, the vehicle is rated to hold more cargo than the 6-Series. With the rear seats folded down, the A7 can hold 49 cubic feet of cargo, while the 6-Series Gran Coupe can only hold 16.2 cubic feet of cargo.

What the 6-Series Gets Right

There are a load of 6-Series body styles and trims to choose from with BMW's option. BMW offers the 6-Series in three body styles: Gran Coupe, Gran Turismo, and Alpina. The body styles range from a stylish sedan to a sportback model with hatchback versatility. If you're looking for different options to choose from, the 6-Series is the one to go with.

BMW has made a name for itself by making vehicles that are fun to drive, and when it comes to the 6-Series, it's the more enjoyable vehicle to drive. It can be fitted with a 445-hp V8 that helps it get to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, which is sprightly for a vehicle of its size.

Massive Updates Reveals a Clear Winner

Audi made a lot of changes for the 2019 model year, ensuring that the new A7 is better in every way over its predecessor. It's better looking, has more equipment, and has better performance than before. At the end of the day, the A7 is the obvious choice over the 6-Series.

Our Verdict: Audi A7

The luxury segment is a hard place to find something that hits all of the right notes, but the Audi A7 manages to do just that. It’s high-tech, enjoyable to drive, devilishly good looking, and sumptuously luxurious. There's not a lot that the A7 gets wrong, which makes it the winner in this comparison.
