The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV arrives as a redesigned electric hatchback with an updated design and more features. Additionally, pricing for the electric vehicle has gone down compared to the previous model year. While Chevrolet has made some changes to the Bolt EV, it continues to use the same powertrain as before.
For 2022, Chevy has also introduced the all-new Bolt EUV. Based on the same platform as the Bolt EV and utilizing the same powertrain, the Bolt EUV differentiates itself from the smaller hatchback with a more rugged design and a more spacious cabin. There are a few other differences that may have you leaning toward one option over the other.
Wondering which one of Chevy’s electric vehicles is the better choice? That’s what we’ll look into with this comparison.
What the Chevy Bolt EV Gets Right
The Bolt EV has an immediate edge over the Bolt EUV when it comes to pricing. The Bolt EV carries a starting price tag of $31,995 including destination, while the Bolt EUV costs $33,995. The $2,000 difference between the two models can be put toward optional features or simply be put toward savings.
Since the Bolt EV is smaller, it has more range than the larger Bolt EUV. Both vehicles come with a 65-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a single electric motor that’s rated at 200 horsepower. While the Bolt EV can travel up to 259 miles on a single charge, the Bolt EUV has a range of 247 miles.
Because of its smaller size, the Bolt EV has more impressive performance than the Bolt EUV. Chevrolet claims the Bolt EV can get to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, while the same sprint takes the Bolt EUV 7 seconds.

What the Chevy Bolt EUV Gets Right
Having a slightly larger body than the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV looks and feels like an SUV. The Bolt EUV is 6.3 inches longer and offers 3.1 more inches of rear legroom than the Bolt EV. Curiously, the Bolt EUV has slightly less cargo space than the Bolt EV, but drivers will find that both electric vehicles offer a spacious cargo area.
While both electric vehicles come with similar tech features, the EUV is available with Chevrolet’s hands-free GM Super Cruise system as an option. It’s a $2,200 extra on the EUV Premier trim and brings hands-free driving on certain highways in North America. Chevy doesn’t offer the system as an option on the Bolt EV, giving the Bolt EUV a large advantage.

Range or Technology?
Chevrolet, for better or worse, has split the Bolt lineup into two categories: affordable and versatile or high-tech and spacious. Drivers on a budget that are looking for a capable electric vehicle with a decent amount of range will find that the Bolt EV fits the bill.
If you’re after an electric SUV with cutting-edge technology but are willing to give up some range for it, the Bolt EUV is a better option. Both vehicles aren't eligible for a federal tax credit but do tend to rank among the best EV deals thanks to other incentives.
Our Verdict
As much as we like the Bolt EV, we think the Bolt EUV will be the better choice for the majority of drivers. Its rugged design, available GM Super Cruise system, spacious rear seat, and 247-mile range make it the more attractive EV in Chevrolet’s lineup.
Note that Chevy temporarily stopped Bolt production late last year due to a battery recall. While the automaker does plan to resume sales for the Bolt, this could force EV buyers to wait or consider one of the many competitors set to hit the market in 2022.
