The Chevrolet Equinox is typically one of the most affordable crossovers available to lease each month. January is no exception as the 2021 Equinox tops the list of cheapest compact SUV leases. Additionally, the Equinox can even be competitive against leases on smaller SUVs. This month, despite being $4,000 more expensive than the subcompact 2021 Trailblazer, the Equinox is just $17 more expensive to lease.
The 2021 Equinox LT starts at $28,695 and is available from $199/month for 39 months with $1,709 due at signing equating to an effective monthly cost of $243. The 2021 Trailblazer LT FWD has a price tag of $24,695 and a current lease offer of $209/month for 39 months with $669 due at signing for an effective monthly cost of $226. Both offers are for current GM and Non-GM lessees and come with a 10,000 mile per year allowance.
In terms of lease factors affecting affordability, both the Equinox and Trailblazer feature comparable residual values. Both also include lease loyalty bonuses available to anyone currently in a lease, whether that’s with a GM brand or any other automaker. The Trailblazer sports a $1,500 loyalty bonus which is $500 more than the $1,000 available with the Equinox. However, it seems as though the Equinox’s near 0% lease interest rate is the largest factor contributing to the low upgrade cost.
The small cost to upgrade to the Equinox can get shoppers much more car for the money. Not only does the Equinox provide more cargo space (63.9 cubic feet vs. 54.4 on the Trailblazer), it provides a more powerful engine without having to compromise much in terms of efficiency. The Equinox LT comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder motor good for 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque with a combined fuel economy rating of 28 miles per gallon. The Trailblazer LT FWD gets a smaller 1.2-liter turbo 3-cylinder with 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque but only a combined 29 mpg.
Those who would prefer to finance will find that the Equinox is also the better deal this month. It features a 0% APR deal for 72 months plus up to an additional $3,150 in down payment assistance. In lieu of interest-free financing, shoppers can get up to $4,500 off MSRP. The Trailblazer on the other hand doesn’t feature a low APR offer at all and rebates only reach $2,250.
Current offers are available nationally and expire February 1.
