A quirk in Cadillac's lease deals could enable luxury car buyers to get a free upgrade. Based on the brand's latest dealer leasing bulletin, the 2022 Cadillac CT5 now has the same effective cost as the smaller CT4. This could make the larger sedan a better deal, although we found some key pros & cons worth knowing about.

Through January 31st, the 2022 Cadillac CT5 Luxury is listed at $419 for 39 months with $3,649 due at signing. That's based on an MSRP of $38,190 and has an effective cost of $513/month. At the same time, the 2022 Cadillac CT4 Premium Luxury is listed at $409 for 36 months with $3,729 at signing, or $513/month.

While the CT5 may seem like a better deal, this isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. That's because the CT4 lease deal is for the Premium Luxury, a higher trim than the CT5 Luxury. In fact, the MSRP of the CT4 that's being advertised this month is $38,790, which is slightly higher than that of the CT5 lease special.

A closer look finds that the CT4 may be a better deal since it benefits from a higher residual value of 51% (versus 47% for the CT5). Having said that, both deals include a $500 conquest cash incentive. If you aren't coming from another Cadillac or a competing brand, expect your amount due at signing to be $500 higher.

As always, it's important to remember that these are manufacturer lease examples and that real-world prices are determined by dealers based on availability. Given that there's an inventory shortage, what you're actually able to get could be quite a bit different since Cadillac dealers generally stock fewer cars than SUVs.

Both offers are based on national lease examples with an allowance of 10,000 miles per year.
