Customers who are looking to lease a 2022 compact car may have just caught a big break. Honda has come out with its newest lease deals, and it has the Civic Hatchback as being only $2 more per month than the Civic Sedan. Based on a dealer incentive bulletin, the main reason for this appears to be a small advantage in residual value that can make the redesigned Civic hatchback a better deal than the sedan.

In the case of the mid-level Sport trim, the sedan has a lease price of $209 for 36 months and $3,099 due at signing, an effective cost of $295/month. On the other hand, the Civic Sport hatchback has a lease price of $219 for 36 months and $2,799 due at signing, making the effective monthly cost $297. This is despite an $800 difference in their MSRP, where the sedan is $24,315 and the hatchback is $25,115. That’s a deal worth considering.

So how is this possible? It comes down to residual values. In leasing, you pay for the depreciation of the car while you have it, as well as leasing fees, and the hatchback is predicted to retain more value than the sedan. A vehicle that's estimated to have a higher residual value typically means a more affordable lease.

The difference in monthly cost in the entry-level LX trim is also very slim. With the 2022 LX Sedan having an effective monthly cost of $291 and the 2022 LX 2.0 Hatchback having an effective monthly cost of $295, that’s only a $4 gap. Even with that seemingly compelling offer, we still believe it’s the better deal to upgrade to the Sport trim model.

If you want to get this 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback lease deal or any of the other deals mentioned above, the offers are nationally available and expire on November 1st.
