Shoppers waiting for the right deal on a new Honda Passport stand to save extra cash in the second half of October. Starting today, Honda is giving dealers an unadvertised incentive worth up to $1,250 to help lower prices. In some cases, shoppers will find up to $2,250 in potential savings, the most we've seen to date.

Unlike a traditional rebate, today's incentive is considered a manufacturer-to-dealer offer that can't be advertised. Dealers have full discretion on how much, if at all, to pass along. Through October 31, the offer involves up to $1,250 in dealer cash on Sport trims and $750 toward EX-L, Touring, and Elite styles.

If you play your cards right, you may be able to save even more.

Based on our analysis, the latest discount can be combined with a $1,000 loyalty discount for returning Honda owners & lessees and shoppers coming from a 2009 or newer vehicle from a competing mainstream automaker.

Examples of eligible brands include Ford, Hyundai, Jeep, Mazda, Nissan Subaru, Volkswagen, and a handful of others. There's no requirement to trade-in your current car, and you can transfer either offer among others in the same household.

Shoppers will likely find the Passport to be cheaper to buy or lease as we enter the final half of the month. This may be good news for those who've been put off by high initial prices and offers that have thus far heavily favored the 3-row Pilot.
