Wagons may not be all the rage here like they are in Europe, but that isn't stopping shoppers from snatching up the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen. The all-new model has been one of the hottest sellers since its debut in March. Incentives generally get better as time goes on, but that hasn't exactly been the case here. Leases have gotten more expensive over the past several months. However, deals have finally started to improve in July, especially with the addition of a rare loyalty incentive. Here's what you need to know.
Deal overview
Beginning July 1, current Volkswagen owners are eligible for a new $1,000 loyalty bonus toward the purchase or lease of a new Golf SportWagen. The incentive can be applied to both gas and TDI models and is set to expire August 31.
For the purposes of this incentive, the automaker is defining "current owner" as someone possessing the title of a 2001 or newer Volkswagen. As a plus, the incentive can be extended to immediate family living at the same address. Vehicle trade-in is not required.
Fortunately, the bonus can be combined with advertised offers. June deals expiring today include leasing a Golf SportWagen 1.8T S with automatic for $319 per month for 36 months with $1,999 due at signing.
If you're looking for an especially good deal, you may want to consider the TDI diesel model. Its MSRP is $3,200 higher but is only $10 more per month to lease and gets up to 43 mpg on the highway. For the money, it's a superior deal.

Our take
Golf SportWagen deals have seen their ups and downs over the past several months. Just last month, the lease was at least $10 per month more expensive. July is the first month that deals have started to improve, especially if you're coming from another VW. If you're looking for a versatile vehicle with impressive fuel efficiency but aren't sold on the current craze for crossovers, the Golf SportWagen may be a good fit for you.
