If you've been shopping for a 2015 Ford F-150, chances are you've seen some ups and downs in terms of offers recently. Discounts have lagged behind competitors, with some incentives even disappearing completely. However, changes announced last Friday amount to as much as $2,000 in additional savings compared to last month. The offers result in the best discounts we've ever seen on the redesigned truck. Here's what you need to know.

Boosting discounts

Last month, offers on the F-150 left a lot to be desired. Discounts stood at around $1,750, with the best deals on XL and XLT models (factoring the rebate, finance bonus and trade-in bonus).

For context, the Chevrolet Silverado had $2,250 in offers (rebate, bonus), the GMC Sierra had $3,500 (rebate, bonus), and the RAM 1500 had $2,500 (rebate, finance bonus).

This month's incentives announced July 7 showed signs of a notable lift with an extra $1,500 bonus on XL and XLT models. Then, Ford threw a curve ball on July 10 with yet another bonus worth $1,000 on all F-150 styles.

Current incentives now amount to as much as $3,750, a $2,000 increase over last month. Even better, current lessees of a competing vehicle can get an additional $750 discount for a total of $4,500 in offers. The best incentives are set to begin expiring July 31.

U-turn on priciest models

If you've had your eye on a posh King Ranch or Platinum style, chances are you've seen higher prices over the past several months. That's because Ford canceled nearly all incentives on those models in May.

Following last Friday's changes, shoppers can now get a $1,000 discount. It's not as dramatic as what we're seeing on the XL and XLT styles but it's a sizable savings where none existed before.

Better time to lease

Payment-minded shoppers get a better lease deal in July, too. You can now lease an XLT 4x2 SuperCrew with 2.7L EcoBoost from $259 per month for 24 months with $4,329 due at signing. This is a $40 per month cut in payment and $530 improvement in amount due at signing versus last month.

While this is undoubtedly a better deal than before, our analysis reveals the 2015 RAM 1500 to be a considerably better value. The Express Crew Cab 4x2 can currently be leased from $299 per month for 36 months with $2,999 due at signing. When you factor the payment and amount due at signing, the effective cost is $57 per month lower than the F-150.

Our take

Ford has been facing challenges with producing more of the popular truck to meet demand. Sales of the F-Series fell 8.9% last month, lagging behind GM's combination of Silverado and Sierra trucks by nearly 15,000 units (Source: Automotive News).

Although it's generally safe to expect deals to carry over or get better, the F-150 has shown itself to be an unusual exception. Ford has been willing to add or remove incentives on it by a larger margin than any other model. It will be interesting to see how competitors like GM and Fiat Chrysler respond, if at all, in the near term.
