The all-new Ford Maverick pickup may be a better value than an EcoSport based on Ford's estimated lease pricing. In fact, our analysis finds that those looking to get the most for their money may find that these two budget-priced vehicles can actually end up with the exact same cost to lease.
Here in California, the 2021 EcoSport SE is listed at $248 for 36 months with $2,769 due at signing, which equates to an effective cost of $325/month. Meanwhile, the 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid is listed at $252 with $2,630 at signing, which translates to the same price of $325 before taxes & fees.
Both of Ford's estimates are based on 10,500 miles per year and MSRPs of $25,205 for the EcoSport and $23,775 for the Maverick. While the EcoSport may seem like a better deal on paper given its higher sticker price, Ford's underlying incentives for its two cheapest vehicles are totally different.
The EcoSport actually benefits from $4,250 in factory lease cash to help drive down its price. The Maverick has none. Ford Credit's residual values are also completely different, at 45% for the EcoSport SE versus 64% for the Maverick XLT. The truck also happens to benefit from ultra-low lease rates.
If you're looking to get the best possible deal, we recommend looking beyond the MSRPs and considering factors like fuel economy, versatility, and safety technology. In these areas, the Maverick seems like an outright winner considering EcoSports don't offer automatic emergency braking at any price.
Having said all of that, Ford's online payment estimates may not necessarily reflect reality. A recent report by iSeeCars claims that the average Maverick sold for close to $30,000 last month. As a result, your ability to get a deal may be limited for now when it comes to the brand's most affordable truck.
