Honda caused a stir last week with the official debut of the 2016 Pilot. Although the redesigned SUV doesn't go on sale until summer, Honda is making it easier for customers currently leasing a Pilot to be the first to snatch up the new model with a special incentive.

A completely new Pilot

The redesigned Pilot was undoubtedly one of the most closely watched debuts at the Chicago Auto Show. The third generation model sports a much sleeker design than the one it replaces.

Notable features include an overhauled interior and a new 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V6 engine mated to a 6 or 9-speed transmission depending on trim. It also gets the full range of safety features including: blind spot monitoring, lane departure control, automatic braking and collision alerts, and adaptive cruise control.

Yesterday, Honda launched the 2016 Pilot Promise program as an incentive for waiting for the new model. The program has three components: a lease extension, complimentary Honda Care warranty, and complimentary Honda Care maintenance.

Program overview

The first part of the new program is a lease extension for current Pilot lessees for up to 6 months to allow for the arrival of the new model. The offer is valid for leases maturing between March 1 and June 30, 2015. Customers must take delivery of their 2016 Pilot by September 30, 2015.

The second part consists of a complimentary Honda Care Vehicle Service Contract for 12 months or 12,000 miles. This includes coverage for mechanical and electrical issues with perks like rental car reimbursement and roadside assistance.

The last component of the program involves complimentary Honda Care Maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles on the 2016 model covering routine maintenance.

Is it worth it?

For current Pilot lessees intrigued by the new model, the Pilot Promise program offers a good option for securing your place in line, filling the time until the vehicle’s launch, and getting additional piece of mind.

The new Pilot will be a compelling option for shoppers looking for a versatile mid-size SUV with updated styling, the latest features, and renowned Honda reliability. Vehicle pricing has not yet been announced, but we expect more info to become available closer to the vehicle’s launch this summer.
