Subaru VIP Pricing offers a haggle-free discount that could save you money when buying or leasing a car. However, not every car shopper may be eligible for the program, and the VIP Pricing discount has some built-in limitations that may make it harder to take advantage of. Here's an inside look at how the deal works.

How much is the Subaru VIP discount? According to a dealer incentive bulletin, the Subaru VIP Program enables buyers to score invoice pricing or below-invoice pricing on select models. The deepest discount is worth 2% under invoice, savings you may find difficult to achieve on your own under normal circumstances.

Who's eligible for Subaru VIP Pricing? To get the discount, you'll need a VIP Program Key Code, which is essentially an authorization code that can be entered on a dedicated program website. Rather than being open to the general public, the discount is actually limited to certain affiliated member organizations.

For example, ASPCA and International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) members may qualify for VIP Pricing. With the latter, you'll need to have been a member for at least 6 months to obtain an authorization code. There are also some regional exclusions, like the fact that buyers in Hawaii are not eligible.

Can VIP Pricing be combined with other incentives? VIP Pricing can be combined with most other Subaru incentives. This may enable you to take advantage of lease deals as well as promotional APR. However, since Subaru doesn't offer traditional rebates, your best chance for savings could be when financing.

What are the limits of VIP Pricing? Subaru says that its VIP Program is limited to two (2) vehicles per year whether you buy or lease. Not all models may be eligible. For example, the Subaru WRX STI is currently excluded, as is the upcoming Subaru Solterra EV. There's also another limitation worth knowing about.

The fine print states "all sales are subject to availability and retailer discretion." While that isn't surprising considering similar-sounding programs like Ford Plan Pricing are limited to participating dealers, it could mean that your savings aren't guaranteed. Given that there's an inventory shortage, this could present a problem.

If you're planning to take advantage of Subaru VIP Pricing, you may also be limited to a designated contact at a participating dealer. Subaru dealers in the states of CT, MA, ME, NJ, NY, RI, and VT also fall under a separate network of distribution and set their own prices compared to Subaru dealers in other parts of the U.S.
