Hyundai is rolling out a special offer for members of the military for Memorial Day this year. According to a letter sent to dealers, the company will double its military discount to $1,000 on May 17 as part of a promo that will last until June 3.

The incentive is available to active and retired military personnel, as well as active first responders and spouses. All vehicles under the Hyundai and Genesis brands are eligible. Combined with other incentives, there are some great deals to be had.

For example, the 2019 Genesis G70 is $40/month cheaper to lease in May and ranks as one of the best leases on a luxury car. The turbocharged base model can be leased from $319 for 36 months with as little as $2,699 due at signing before the military bonus when coming from a competitor.

In a big shift compared to last month, Hyundai is offering aggressive financing incentives. The brand's best deals are on its SUVs, with 0% APR for 72 months on the 2019 Kona, Tucson, and Santa Fe. In contrast, rates on the brand's sedans are largely unchanged.

While 0% APR is often less attractive than rebates, that's not always the case. The Hyundai Santa Fe SEL offers a choice between $1,750 cash or 0% APR for 72 months. On a $28,000 vehicle, our analysis finds that taking the financing could save you more than $1,700 compared to taking the rebate with a 5-year loan at 5%.

Other brands offer programs for military personnel, but not every offer works in the same way. For example, GM offers Supplier Pricing, which equates to a pre-negotiated discount. Eligibility can vary by program, so be sure to read any fine print carefully.
