Subaru WRX Cheaper To Buy Than A Toyota Corolla

New car shoppers looking for some thrill in their daily commute may find a Subaru WRX a surprisingly affordable upgrade this month. Based on our analysis, the rally-inspired sedan could be cheaper than a well-equipped Toyota Corolla. This could constitute a killer deal ahead of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.

As CarsDirect reported last week, a 2023 Subaru WRX 0% financing deal promises no interest for 72 months. Interestingly, this could blow away Toyota's best deal on the economical Corolla. In the case of the higher-end Corolla XSE sedan, a WRX could be a significantly better value because of the new interest rate.

In base form, the Subaru WRX starts at $33,475 including destination. On a $33,000 vehicle, a 6-year loan at 0% APR would cost around $458 per month before taxes & fees. According to Toyota's website, the 2024 Corolla XSE is priced at $28,245 but would cost $465 per month based on an interest rate of 5.75% APR.

On paper, that means the WRX costs nearly $5,000 more than the Corolla but is $7 cheaper to buy. And that's before considering dealer markups. At Roseville Toyota in Northern California, every single Corolla has a $2,000 market adjustment. This kind of quirk could make a new WRX a surprisingly good value.

As CarsDirect's Sean Kaufman noted recently, the 2023 Subaru WRX may be hard to find in your area based on current inventory levels. What's more, we think a base model may be even harder to find than a higher trim. Still, shoppers able to find one could be able to score a killer deal for the Memorial Day holiday.
