Volkswagen is offering the biggest discounts to date on the ID.4 to start the year. According to bulletins sent to dealers, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 features up to an $11,000 discount off MSRP when leasing. However, we found some important catches that could prevent you from getting the best deal possible on a new ID.4.

As before, all versions of the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 feature $7,500 in lease cash, a manufacturer incentive that you can only get when leasing. That's not bad, but we found a dizzying array of discounts that could result in a roughly 50% increase in savings under ideal circumstances based on offers available till March 4th.

First, all-wheel-drive ID.4s are eligible for a $1,750 Customer Bonus, while rear-wheel-drive versions get $500. This is a discount available for buying or leasing. Separately, VW is offering a Dealer Bonus worth up to $1,750 in the case of the ID.4 Pro S Plus with AWD. That's $11,000 in possible savings on an ID.4 lease.

While that may sound impressive, the Dealer Bonus is essentially dealer cash and not guaranteed savings. It's also worth noting that the incentive varies by trim. For example, the Pro S Plus with RWD has a $1,500 Dealer Bonus, while the Pro S AWD gets $750 and the Pro S RWD gets $500. Talk about confusing...

In other words, the cheapest 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 has up to $8,000 off based on the $7,500 lease incentive and $500 Customer Bonus. But on the high end, the Pro S Plus AWD has $11,000 in discounts when factoring in the lease cash, the Customer Bonus, and the Dealer Bonus. That's pretty good at this point.

Other brands are offering double-digit discounts on EVs this month too. As CarsDirect reported last week, Hyundai is offering $15,000 off the 2023 IONIQ 5 when leasing. Similarly, Lexus is continuing to offer $15,000 off the RZ when leased, while the all-new RZ 300e has a $44,000 price based on current incentives.
