Can I Get a Car Registration Renewal Delay in California?

January 27, 2012

California does not offer any form of delay or grace period for car registration renewal. In addition, penalties are based on how late the registration is completed. So, the longer the delay, the more it costs. There is one exception, though. If a car is going to be stored and not used for an extended period of time, the owner can file a planned non-operation. It is important to remember that the non-operation should be filed before the registration is due. It can be filed up to 90 days after the registration date, but in that case, the penalties are still due.
