Expert Rating

Not Available

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

2021 Ford F-350 Overview

John Diether
Automotive Editor - February 10, 2021

What's New

The 2021 Ford F-350 sees minor equipment revisions following last year's refresh, which included new engines and tech features.

The 2022 model year will bring a total redesign to the F-350. The current version debuted in 2017.

Choosing Your Ford F-350

Like all Ford F-Series models, the F-350 comes in six trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Pricing starts at $37,440 and goes all the way to $87,060 for the Limited.

Engine Choices

The F-350 is available with two gas V8 engines and a turbodiesel V8.

Engine TypeHorsepowerTorqueMax Towing
6.2L V8385 hp430 lb-ft16,700 pounds
6.7L Turbodiesel V8475 hp1,050 lb-ft35,750 pounds

The 6.2-liter V8 is standard on all trims except the Limited, which comes with the 6.7-liter turbodiesel only. Upgrading to the 7.3L V8 costs $1,705, and the turbodiesel V8 requires an extra $10,495.

The F-350 starts out with rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard on the Limited and Platinum, and costs from $1,700 to $3,190 on the other trims. Dual rear wheels are available on all models for $1,470 to $2,010.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The F-350 Regular Cab seats three, while the four-door SuperCab and SuperCrew can accommodate up to six. The SuperCrew configuration has full-size rear doors and significantly more rear legroom.

The Regular Cab comes with an 8-foot bed. The SuperCab and SuperCrew start with a 6-foot-9-inch bed, and the 8-footer is available for $200.

The XL and XLT are available with all three cab styles. The Lariat comes in SuperCab and SuperCrew form. The SuperCrew configuration is standard starting with the King Ranch.

Safety Features

The entry-level XL is available with automatic emergency braking ($115) and blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert ($540). These items are standard on the XLT, along with lane departure warning and automatic high beams.

The Trailer Tow Camera System ($1,655) provides surround view-cameras, reverse trailer guidance with steering assist, and trailer lane keeping alert. This setup comes standard on the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Adaptive cruise is optional on the Lariat and King Ranch ($740) and standard on the Platinum and Limited.

Connectivity

Ford's SYNC infotainment voice control system is standard on the F-350, along with a four-speaker sound system, Wi-Fi compatibility, and two front power points. For $450, buyers can upgrade to SYNC 3 with enhanced voice recognition, a touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The XLT gets SYNC 3 as standard, plus seven speakers (five on the Regular Cab), satellite radio, and front and rear house-hold style power outlets (front only on the Regular Cab). Navigation becomes available for $570.

Starting with the Lariat, the F-350 carries a 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system, an 8-inch touchscreen, and two rear power points. The Lariat Ultimate Package ($3,495) includes navigation, HD radio, and wireless device charging. These features are standard on the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

XL — From $37,440

The XL reports for duty with vinyl seats and flooring, black exterior trim, air conditioning, and 17-inch steel wheels. The most essential add-on is the $1,075 Power Equipment Group, which includes power windows and locks, a power tailgate lock, keyless entry, heated power-folding side mirrors, and upgraded door panel trim. The XL Value Package ($395) adds cruise control, chrome bumpers, and chrome hubcaps. These items are also available in the $1,825 STX Appearance Package, along with a chrome grille and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

XLT — From $42,315

The XLT comes standard with contents of the XL's option packages. The XLT Value Package ($1,340) tacks on an eight-way power driver seat, automatic locking and unlocking doors, rear parking sensors, an entry keypad, and rear under-seat storage. Cloth upholstery and full carpeting are standard. A panoramic sunroof becomes available on Crew Cabs for $1,495.

Lariat — From $50,430

The Lariat moves upmarket with leather upholstery, individual front seats with center console, a power passenger seat, and automatic dual-zone climate control. The Lariat Value Package ($710) includes heated and ventilated front seats, driver memory settings, power-adjustable pedals, LED box lighting, remote start, and power-telescoping side mirrors. The other main option choice is the $3,495 Lariat Ultimate Package, which combines the Value Package contents with the aforementioned infotainment upgrades — plus ambient interior lighting, a power-release tailgate, and proximity key access.

King Ranch — From $62,805

The King Ranch gets an exclusive antiqued leather interior, two-tone paint on the lower body, and chromed 18-inch wheels. The Lariat's comfort and convenience options are standard here. Buyers who want more distinction can add the King Ranch Ultimate Package ($3,350) with full LED exterior lighting, massaging front seats, power running boards, a tailgate step, and the panoramic sunroof.

Platinum — From $68,370

The Platinum follows a modern luxury design theme, which includes unique leather upholstery, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, and heated rear seats. Only the sunroof remains optional.

Limited — From $87,060

The Limited is the only F-350 to get the turbodiesel engine and 4WD as standard, not to mention nearly everything else. The interior carries two-tone leather upholstery, unique gauge faces, and a serial number plaque.

CarsDirect Tip

The XL makes for a fine work truck, but the XLT is far better equipped for personal use. The Lariat deserves a nod for coming off as a luxury truck in every way except price.
