2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Changes

The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 receives minor changes to the list of standard features across the line-up, making some trims slightly more expensive while others are slightly less expensive.

Choosing Your 2025 GMC Sierra 1500

The 2025 Sierra 1500 is available in eight trims: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali, AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. Base Sierra prices range from $39,945 to $87,195, demonstrating that the Sierra can be outfitted to suit the needs of both fleet customers and high-end retail customers.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine Options

The Sierra 1500 is offered in a range of powertrains, including three gasoline engines: a turbocharged four-cylinder, a V8, a larger V8, and one diesel turbocharged six-cylinder engine. The four-cylinder is fitted with an eight-speed transmission, while all other engines are mated to a 10-speed unit. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trims except the off-road-oriented AT4 and AT4X trims and the luxurious Denali Ultimate trim, where the automatic part-time four-wheel system is included.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Fuel Economy

The four-cylinder gasoline engine returns an EPA-estimated 20 MPG combined, while the V8s return less, as one might expect. The diesel engine easily outpaces the gasoline engines in terms of efficiency; however, the fuel is often more expensive.

It should also be noted that choosing one of the off-road trims or even selecting off-road tires can significantly impact overall fuel efficiency, as their additional capabilities require certain compromises to aerodynamics and rolling resistance performance.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Capacity

The Sierra 1500 is rated to haul up to 13,000 pounds with the big V8 engine or the diesel engine. The smaller V8 can manage up to 9,500 pounds, while the four-cylinder is rated for 8,900 pounds. Specific figures vary depending on the drivetrain and cab configurations. Those looking to regularly tow might consider the Sierra 2500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Dimensions & Cargo Capacity

The GMC Sierra 1500 can be had in a standard, extended, or crew cab configuration, although not on all trim levels. Most consumers will select the crew cab model and the five-foot bed (a six-foot bed is available on some trims), which is available on all trims. That configuration puts the Sierra 1500 at 232 inches in length, or essentially the same as the Ford F-150 and RAM 1500.

Inside, the crew cab offers a spacious 43 inches of leg room for rear passengers.

Of note, the AT4 and AT4X trims feature a two-inch suspension lift, which raises the overall height to 78.4 inches.

GMC Sierra 1500

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Safety

The base Sierra trim includes a basic level of active safety features with automatic emergency braking, a following-distance indicator, lane keep assist, and automatic high beams rounding out the list. Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and rear park assist are available through the $740 Safety Plus Package. The SLE’s Safety Plus Package adds an HD surround-view camera system, blind-spot detection with trailer-zone coverage, front parking sensors, and perimeter lighting. The SLE and higher trims also offer auxiliary camera inputs for anyone looking to monitor the inside of the trailer and/ or behind the trailer through the large infotainment display.

GM’s hands-free driving assist system, Super Cruise, is offered in the Denali and Denali Ultimate trims.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Technology

The 2025 Sierra 1500 Pro trim has a seven-inch touchscreen, while other trims have a 13.4-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard on all, while the SLE trim adds SiriusXM, remote connectivity, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Our expert ratings are based on seven comprehensive criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

Pros
  • Large screens, impressive tech
  • High towing capacity
  • Smooth and powerful engines
  • Dizzying number of configurations
Cons
  • Chevy Silverado 1500 feels similar, is cheaper
  • Most trims don’t feel upscale
  • Missing a RAM TRX, Ford F-150 Raptor rival
  • Can get pricey

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Has Numerous Configurations

With five different cab and boxy styles, eight trims, and four engines, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in a dizzying number of configurations. While pickup trucks are known for being available in multiple configurations, the Sierra 1500’s lineup is truly extensive. If there’s one hole in the truck’s lineup, it’s the lack of a high-performance off-roader that can compete against the RAM 1500 TRX and Ford F-150 Raptor.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Is Available With Powerful Engines

As a full-size pickup truck that’s meant for work duties, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with punchy engines, including a turbo-diesel option, which is a rarity in today’s push for electrification. For regular use, homeowners, or light DIYers, the Sierra 1500’s base turbo 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine should have plenty of performance to get the job done with 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

Shoppers who expect to require some extra grunt from their pickup can step up to a 5.3-liter V8 engine that’s rated at 355 hp or a 6.2-liter V8 engine that makes 420 hp. The Sierra 1500 is also one of the few options in the full-size segment to be available with a diesel engine, which in the truck is a turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder motor that makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the diesel engine is a pricey upgrade that costs roughly $3,000 more, depending on the configuration, over the base 4-cylinder engine.

GMC Sierra 1500

Can The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Tow A Lot Of Cargo?

When properly equipped, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 can haul up to 2,240 pounds and tow up to 13,200 pounds. That trails the segment leader, the Ford F-150, by just 300 pounds and should be more than enough for most drivers. The only way to get a lot more towing capacity is to move up to a heavy-duty pickup.

Does The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Get Good Fuel Economy?

Unlike a few of its competitors, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 isn’t available with a hybrid powertrain. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear that the truck lags slightly behind when it comes to fuel economy.

The available turbo-diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient motor in the Sierra 1500’s lineup and is rated at up to 26 mpg combined. The base turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is the second-most efficient option available, carrying a combined fuel economy rating of up to 20 mpg.

The Sierra 1500’s available V8 engines bring poor fuel economy figures. The 5.3-liter V8 is rated at up to 18 mpg combined and the 6.2-liter V8 engine can get up to 17 mpg combined. Drivers will most likely see worse figures in the real world when towing or hauling cargo.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Has High-Tech Features

While the base 2025 GMC Sierra 1500’s 7-inch touchscreen is nothing to write home about, the truck is available with some advanced tech features. Higher trim levels come with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

In addition to coming with large screens, the Sierra 1500 is also available with Google built-in software, which is a great infotainment system that’s intuitive to use. The tech also extends to the truck’s safety features, as the pickup is available with General Motors’ hands-free Super Cruise driver-assist system that works when towing. The truck is also available with advanced towing features to give drivers a unique look at the bed or trailer while driving.

GMC Sierra 1500

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Provides Passengers With A Roomy Interior

It’s no secret that pickup trucks have grown immensely over the past few years and are now used as daily drivers by millions of people. With a spacious cabin and two rows of roomy seats, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 can be for daily use as a small family vehicle if needed.

In its largest configuration, the Sierra 1500 has 43 inches of rear legroom, which matches some midsize options. We still recommend that shoppers purchase a minivan, a midsize SUV with three rows of seats, or a large SUV if they want a family vehicle, but the Sierra 1500 can haul a small family and cargo to the beach house in comfort.

Interior Quality In The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Can Be A Hit Or Miss

As GM’s upscale truck brand, one would expect the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 to put a little distance between itself and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. But that’s not the case. Lower trims look nearly identical to one another and have similar interior quality as each other, too. Stepping up to the Denali trim brings a slightly different design, but shoppers can save money by purchasing the more affordable Silverado 1500 and getting similar capabilities, designs, and features.

Is The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 A Good Pickup Truck?

The 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is a good pickup truck but fails to stand out in the same way as the Ford F-150 or the RAM 1500. For shoppers who need a work-oriented truck, the Sierra 1500 delivers with powerful engines, stout towing capacity, and work-friendly tech features. The Sierra 1500 is also a great choice for shoppers who are simply looking for a truck, as it has a roomy cabin, a variety of different configurations, and high-tech features. The rugged AT4X may not be as powerful as some rivals, but it can tackle rough terrain with ease.

The Sierra 1500 doesn’t feel like the luxury option it claims to be or its price tag makes it out to be. Additionally, the lack of an electrified powertrain puts it on the back foot when it comes to fuel economy. For most people, it will be difficult to make a case to purchase the Sierra 1500 over the cheaper Silverado 1500.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Alternatives

The RAM 1500 is one of the more comfortable full-size trucks in the class, as it has a surprisingly smooth ride quality. It’s available with punchy 6-cylinder engines and the base V6 features a mild-hybrid system The available twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine makes up to 540 hp and towing capacity is rated at up to 11,580 pounds. The RAM 1500 has one of the fancier cabins in the segment with upscale materials, an optional 14.5-inch touchscreen, an available 10.3-inch passenger display, and high-end materials.

The Ford F-150 is the king of the hill. It’s available with six different engines, which include a twin-turbo V6 hybrid and a supercharged V8 that makes 700 hp. The F-150 is available with innovative features, like an onboard generator, which isn’t offered with the Sierra 1500, and is available with a hands-free driver-assist system of its own. The F-150 may not feel as upscale as the RAM 1500, but it’s on par with the Sierra 1500, and its interior offers more flexibility thanks to a center console that can transform into a workspace and fold-flat front seats.
