2022 GMC Sierra 1500

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 receives a thorough refresh with an emphasis on technology and interior refinement. The makeover includes a cockpit-style instrument panel, larger display screens, a redesigned center console, new grilles, and headlights. The base turbocharged four-cylinder engine gets a healthy boost in output. GM's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system is available on the Sierra for the first time.

The lineup gains two specialty trims: the off-road AT4X and high-luxury Denali Ultimate. The base trim is now called Pro and carries newly standard driver assistance features. The V6 engine and six-speed automatic previously available on some trims are no more. The outgoing generation is still available to buy under the model name 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited.

The 2022 Sierra 1500 now comes in eight trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. Pricing starts at $36,295 and stretches to $81,740 for the Denali Ultimate.

Buyers have a choice of four engines. A 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is standard on the Pro, SLE, and Elevation. A 5.3-liter V8 is optional on those trims and standard on the SLT and Denali. The AT4 and Denali Ultimate start out with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel, which is optional on the SLE, Elevation, SLT, and Denali. The AT4X is powered by a 6.2-liter V8, which is available as an upgrade on the SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

The 2.7-liter turbo uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, while other engines run with a 10-speed automatic.

Four-wheel drive is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate — and available on the other trims for $3,300. This upgrade is required to add the 6.2-liter V8 to the SLT and Denali.

The 2022 Sierra 1500 Regular Cab (Pro trim only) seats three passengers, while the Double Cab and Crew Cab can handle up to six. The Crew Cab offers full-size rear doors and significantly more rear legroom. The Double Cab is a $3,300 upgrade on the Pro, and the Crew Cab cost $5,700. The Double Cab is standard on the SLE and Elevation, and the Crew Cab is available for $2,400. The SLT and above come in Crew Cab form only.

The Regular Cab starts with a 79-inch bed, and a 98-inch bed is available for $200. The Double Cab comes exclusively with the 79-inch bed. A 70-inch bed is standard on the Crew Cab, and the 79-inch bed is available on 4WD models for $300.

Every 2022 Sierra 1500 now comes with lane-keeping assist, a following-distance indicator, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. The 1SA Safety Plus Package ($835) for the Pro adds front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking.

These features are included in the Sierra Safety Plus Package ($1,180) for the SLE, Elevation, SLT, and AT4, along with trailer blind-spot monitoring and surround-view cameras with trailer views. The bundle also includes a vibrating alert in the driver seat on the SLT. All of these items are standard starting with the Denali.

Technology Package for the AT4 ($1,590) furnishes a rearview camera mirror, a bed-view camera, and a 15-inch color head-up display. Adaptive cruise control is available in the $850 AT4 Preferred Package. These features are standard on the XT4X, and available in the Denali's $1,940 Technology Package, which also provides radar-enhance automatic emergency braking.

The new Super Cruise semi-automatic driving system is limited to the Denali trims. It's included in the Reserve Super Cruise Package ($6,430) for the regular Denali — and standard on the Denali Ultimate.

The 2022 Sierra 1500 starts out with a seven-inch touchscreen, six speakers (four on Regular Cab), two USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The Connectivity and Entertainment Package ($325) adds wireless smartphone integrations, wi-fi capability, and satellite radio. These items are standard on the SLE and Elevation, along with a 13.4-inch touchscreen with built-in Google services.

The Elevation's Preferred Package ($1,980) includes wireless phone charging, two rear USB ports, and a seven-speaker Bose sound system. These items are available on the SLT in the $1,670 SLT Convenience Package — and standard on the AT4 and Denali.

A 12-speaker Bose system is exclusive to the AT4X and Denali Ultimate.

The Pro provides basics like power windows and locks, air conditioning, push-button start, and cloth or vinyl upholstery. The exterior receives black trim, LED headlights, and 17-inch silver steel wheels.

The $1,070 Convenience Package rounds out the Pro with keyless entry, cruise control, a rear window defogger, rear privacy glass, LED bed lighting, heated power side mirrors, and GMC's EZ Lift tailgate with power lock and release. GMC's configurable MultiPro tailgate can be added for $595.

The MultiPro tailgate and Convenience Package features are standard on the SLE, along with a 10-way power driver seat, heated front seats, upgraded cloth upholstery, a 12.3-inch instrument display, aluminum wheels, chrome exterior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The SLE Preferred Package ($1,480) adds adaptive cruise control, a universal home remote, rear wheelhouse liners, a power-sliding rear window, trailering apps, and hitch guidance in the rearview camera display.

The Elevation features a monochromatic exterior with black accents and 20-inch black wheels. Buyers also get LED fog lights and selectable driving and traction modes. The Preferred Package costs $1,980 on the Elevation because it includes the aforementioned connectivity upgrades.

The Elevation Premium Package ($3,650) provides the Preferred and Safety Plus contents, plus leather seats and a spray-on bedliner. A sunroof can be added to the package for $995.

The SLT gains a leather interior with a power passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The outside gets additional chrome trim, power-folding mirrors, and 18-inch machined aluminum wheels. Besides its connectivity updates, the SLT Convenience Package ($1,670) furnishes ventilated and heated front bucket seats and a power-adjustable steering wheel.

The Preferred Package continues, but with heated rear seats and a lower price, at $1,050. For buyers who want it all, the $5,500 SLT Premium Plus Package combines the major packages (Safety Plus, Convenience, Preferred) with chrome entry steps and 20-inch polished wheels. The sunroof remains optional.

The AT4 reports for off-road duty with standard four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, a 2-inch suspension lift, underbody skid plates, and all-weather floor liners. Perforated leather seats and the contents of the SLT Convenience Package are also standard.

The AT4 Premium Package ($2,390) includes everything in the Preferred and Safety Plus packages, plus high-clearance entry steps.

The plush Denali receives an upgraded leather interior with wood trim, an adaptive suspension, and 20-inch multidimensional polished wheels.

The Denali Reserve Package ($4,730) combines with Technology Package with power-deploying entry steps, 22-inch wheels, and the sunroof. The Reserve Super Cruise Package ($6,430) adds the semi-autonomous driving system.

The AT4X builds on the AT4 with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve suspension dampers, electronically locking front and rear differentials, and the 6.2-liter V8 as standard. Interiors receive 16-way massaging front seats, full-grain leather upholstery, and unique wood trim. Everything available in major options groups (except Super Cruise) is standard.

The Denali Ultimate comes standard with everything available on the regular Denali, including four-wheel drive, the 6.2-liter V8, and Super Cruise. Exclusive touches include upgraded perforated leather upholstery and 22-inch low gloss black wheels with machined accents.
