What's New
The entire 2023 Kia Niro lineup has been fully redesigned for the new model year. The second-gen Niro still focuses on fuel economy, but now comes with more performance, sharp exterior styling, and Kia’s latest tech features.
Choosing Your Kia Niro
Kia offers the 2023 Niro as a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and an all-electric vehicle. The Niro Hybrid is offered in five trims: LX, EX, EX Touring, SX, and SX Touring. Pricing for the SUV ranges from $27,915 to $36,215. The Niro PHEV is offered in EX ($35,165) and SX Touring ($40,915) trims. The Niro EV is available in Wind and Wave trims that range from $40,875 to $45,875.
Engine Choices
The 2023 Niro is available with three different powertrains, one for each model. The Niro Hybrid comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor. Output is rated at 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid comes with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The available Niro PHEV comes with a similar powertrain to the Niro Hybrid, but has a larger electric motor and an 11.1-kWh battery pack. The PHEV is rated at 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the hybrid, the PHEV comes with a traditional six-speed automatic transmission.
Kia also offers the Niro with an all-electric powertrain. The Niro EV comes with a single electric motor that produces 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque. The all-electric Niro EV comes with a 64.8-kWh battery pack that gives it a range of up to 253 miles on a single charge.
The Niro Hybrid is rated to get up to 53 mpg combined. The Niro PHEV doesn’t have official fuel economy figures from the EPA yet but can travel up to 33 miles on electricity. The Niro EV has a 113 MPGe combined rating.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
All 2023 Niro models offer seating for up to five people. Legroom in the back has grown by 2.4 inches to 39.8 inches.
Cargo capacity has grown for 2023, too. The Niro Hybrid and Niro EV have 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and a total of 63.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Because of the placement of its battery pack, the Niro PHEV loses some cargo capacity compared to the hybrid model. The PHEV offers 19.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 54.6 cubic feet of total cargo space.
Safety Features
The Niro comes with an extensive list of standard safety features. Every model comes equipped with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, a driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, vehicle exit warning, and automatic high beam assist.
The EX comes with adaptive cruise control, while the SX comes with parking sensors.
Connectivity
Kia offers the Niro with a standard eight-inch touchscreen, six audio speakers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4.3-inch instrument display, Bluetooth, and five USB ports.
Moving up to the EX trim adds a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, satellite radio, voice recognition, and a wireless charging pad. The SX trim has a Harman Kardon audio system with seven audio speakers.

Compare Niro Trims Side-By-Side
There are so many different 2023 Kia Niro models to choose from that it can be confusing. We recommend starting with choosing what kind of powertrain you want. With extra power and the versatility of some all-electric range, we think the PHEV model is the best choice for most people. The Niro Hybrid EX Touring strikes us as being the best value option for consumers wanting a hybrid model, while the EV Wind is as high as we recommend going.
