For buyers who still want full-size luxury with just two doors, Mercedes-Benz serves up the CL-Class coupe, a sleek alternative to sober sedans. The CL63 AMG variant aims for even greater distinction with its aggressive performance and sporty packaging.
What's New for 2014
A few previously optional features are now standard: a rearview camera, infrared night vision and massaging front seats.
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG
Like all Mercedes-Benz models endowed with the AMG treatment, the CL63 carries performance-spec braking, steering, and suspension systems. You also get specific 20-inch wheels and unique styling touches inside and out. The most compelling upgrade lies under the hood: a 536-horsepower twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8.
To go with all that premium hardware, you get a full slate of creature comforts such as a 15-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system, heated and ventilated front seats with memory, heated power-folding side mirrors, a sunroof, a power rear sunshade and navigation with voice controls.
Standard safety technology includes blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist, front and rear parking sensors, and night vision with pedestrian detection.
Just in case that isn’t enough power and luxury, you may add a few option packages:
- AMG Performance: Bumps engine output to 563 horsepower and top speed to 186 mph—and throws in a carbon fiber engine cover.
- Driver Assistance: Includes adaptive cruise control and a suite collision-mitigation technology.
- AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber: Adds carbon fiber body trim.
Buyers can also opt for a split-view center dash display, a wood-trimmed steering wheel and carbon fiber interior accents.
Although it’s been on the market for years now, the current CL-Class hasn’t lost an ounce of its swagger. If you’re in love with its classy-but-muscular character, it’s time to sign on the dotted line. An all-new version is being prepped for 2015.
