For decades, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has served as a definitive example of the midsize luxury motorcar. Stylish without gaudiness, the E-Class is invariably advanced in technology, but not overwhelming in gadgetry. Swift in performance, at home on secondary roads as well as long highway stretches, the refined German-made sedan is hardly raucous or jarring. Mercedes-Benz has redesigned the E-Class lineup, adding a new four-cylinder entry-level E300 sedan to take the place of the V6-powered E350.
