The hatchback variant of the compact Lancer sedan, the Sportback boasts a sleeker profile and greatly expanded cargo capacity. It’s designed for cost-conscious buyers who want fine versatility with a touch of sport.
What's New for 2014
The Sportback’s optional audio system receives a new touchscreen interface. The available navigation system gets some updates, including a larger screen.
Choosing Your Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback
Unlike the more customizable sedan, the Sportback offers only two trim levels and two engine options. Here, you'll choose between a 2-liter four-cylinder with 148 horsepower and a 2.4-liter that’s good for 168 horsepower. Both engines are matched to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

ES
The base ES carries the 2-liter engine and popular conveniences like automatic headlamps, power windows and locks, and a four-speaker sound system with CD. An Alloy Wheel Package adds alloy wheels in place of the standard steel ones and four-wheel disc brakes. The Deluxe Package includes the above equipment, plus a sunroof, keyless start, enhanced interior trim and an upgraded sound system.
GT
Stepping up to the GT brings the more powerful 2.4-liter and a bundle of performance upgrades: Eighteen-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, sports seats, foglamps and aerodynamic body trim. You also get extra convenience items like automatic climate control, touchscreen audio and a rearview camera. The optional Touring Package adds heated leather seats, xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof and a nine-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system. All models can get a navigation system that includes 3D mapping, voice controls, real-time traffic data and a 7-inch HD touchscreen. It’s a sophisticated setup that you don’t find every day in this price class.
With its 53 cubic feet of cargo space, dual-level cargo floor and available roof rack, the Lancer Sportback can be a credible alternative to compact crossovers costing thousands more. Let your taste and budget guide your choice to an ES or GT.
