The Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in is no longer eligible for a federal tax credit on purchases. That's due to how the Inflation Reduction Act favors EVs assembled in North America. We don't expect this to change for the better when it comes to buying the Outlander PHEV.

In some states, you may be able to score additional savings. As of July 1st, the Colorado Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit offers up to a $5,000 tax credit on EVs and plug-in hybrids. Be sure to check with a qualified tax advisor to see if you're eligible or not.

Are Outlander PHEVs Good To Lease?

Although the Outlander Plug-In isn't eligible for a federal tax credit, a loophole allows manufacturers to claim a commercial credit on leases. In the case of the Outlander PHEV, this can make the SUV better to lease than to buy.

In California, the Clean Vehicle Rebate offers $1,000 in savings that you can't get on the regular Outlander. An increased rebate is available for households with lower incomes. The program has many rules as well as an income cap, so be sure to read the requirements carefully.
