Tesla Model X Tax Credit

After an August 2023 price cut, the Tesla Model X Long Range once again qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit. That's because the EV's MSRP now falls under an $80,000 price cap imposed by the Inflation Reduction Act.

If you think you may be eligible, we suggest checking with a tax professional. Note that certain options may push the SUV's MSRP over the price cap. What's more, higher trims remain excluded since they're more expensive.

California Clean Vehicle Rebate

In California, the Clean Vehicle Rebate used to offer a $2,000 incentive on a wide range of EVs. However, an MSRP cap disqualified the Model X a long time ago. As of November 2023, the CVRP stopped taking applications while the state transitions to a separate incentive called Clean Cars 4 All designed specifically for low-income buyers.

The $750 California Clean Fuel Reward used to offer a way to enjoy some additional savings, but the rebate amount was reduced to $0 and there's no way to know if it will come back anytime soon.

Colorado EV Tax Credit

The state of Colorado offers an EV Tax Credit with up to $5,000 in potential savings. However, the program has an MSRP cap of $80,000, limiting which versions of the Tesla Model X that can potentially be eligible.

Given the fact that the Colorado EV Tax Credit can be stacked with the federal one, this could result in big savings on qualifying vehicles. Be sure to read the fine print carefully to determine whether or not this incentive is right for you.
