What's New
Establishing a foothold as an all-new automaker in a new country isn’t easy, but that’s exactly what VinFast is looking to do. The Vietnam-based automaker is bringing a few models to the U.S., with the VF 9 set to be its largest and most expensive vehicle available. The VF 9 is excepted to go on sale in the near future, but the automaker hasn’t released all of the SUV’s details yet.
Choosing Your VinFast VF 9
Engine Choices
All VF 9 SUVs come with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Both the Eco and Plus trims are rated at up to 402 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque and can get to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds. The SUV comes with a battery pack with 123 kWh of usable capacity. VinFast claims that it’s targeting 369 miles of range with the Eco trim and 360 miles with the Plus. These figures are based on the WLTP cycle. They should be lower for the U.S. market. When plugged into a fast charger, the VF 9 can go from 10% to 70% charged in 35 minutes.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The VF 9 is a midsize electric SUV that offers seating for up to seven people across three rows of seats. The SUV is also available with second-row captain’s chairs that reduce seating capacity to six people. VinFast hasn’t released information on cargo capacity for the VF 9 yet.

Safety Features
Both VF 9 models come with an extensive list of standard safety features. Parking sensors, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, lane centering assist, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver attention monitor, and adaptive cruise control will be standard. VinFast is also offering its traffic jam assist and highway assist systems as standard.
Connectivity
In a similar move to Tesla, the VF 9 will feature a simplified interior design that’s centered around the 15.6-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system will also include a Wi-Fi hotspot, 13 audio speakers, valet mode, pet mode, camp mode, navigation, an advanced trip planner, and a vehicle locator.
Available tech features will include Android Auto, a web browser, audio entertainment, a virtual assistant, a satellite view for the navigation system, and live traffic. These features will be available through a subscription plan. An eight-inch rear screen on the center console is standard on the Plus trim.

2023 VinFast VF 9 Eco – MSRP From $77,400
While the Eco trim is the base one for the VF 9, it doesn’t feel like an entry-level model. It comes well-equipped with a host of standard features.
LED headlights and taillights, auto-leveling headlights, heated exterior mirrors, 20-inch wheels, leatherette upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a six-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and a bench third row are standard.
2023 VinFast VF 9 Plus – MSRP From $85,400
The range-topping Plus trim adds 21-inch wheels, vegan leather upholstery, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 10-way power-adjustable passenger’s seat, tri-zone climate control, and a panoramic glass roof.
Compare VF 9 Trims Side-By-Side
Based on the information that we currently have, we think the 2023 VinFast VF 9 Eco is the better choice of the two. It comes generously equipped with features, is expected to have more range than the Plus trim, and is available with seating for up to seven. Considering the few features that the Plus trim adds, it’s a drastic increase in pricing that makes it an easy pass.
